Why do I keep coming across the morbid DIDs....?

Two of the female protagonist accidentally find themselves in the "forbidden floor" of an experiment facility.
One gets handgagged at the end of chapter 3 and is knocked out with chloroform in chapter 4, waking up in a "safe zone".

Her friend didn't fare well, as she is strapped unto a stretcher and pushed into an incinerator with roaring flames.



She survives... and it's not pretty.
