She's Back... Batgirl #1

Post by rider28031 »

Gentlemen, I don't know if you're aware of the DC Comics semi-reboot but with the annoucement, there has been hope for the return of Barabara Gordon as Batgirl (at least I have). Now, that wish has been granted; here's the cover to Batgirl #1 by Adam Hughs:

I liked Cassie AND Steph better :P

But still interested to see what they do with Babs back in the role and the explanation of it. Seeing as Damian is still in continuity it's safe to say Steph and Cassie will be doing something in some capacity.

Don't get me wrong; I like Steph as Batgirl but I always preferred Barbara because of growing up with the Batman: TAS version. Personally, I'd imagine Stephanie being Spoiler again or something.

It's got Simone attached to it, so the writing will probably be solid, but...I'm not sure how I feel about Barbara being Batgirl again. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how things work out.

Hughes paints her hair like her head's on fire. Gotta laugh.

It's hard to get worked up anymore over anything done in comics, particularly DC comics, knowing that whoever's editing the line in a year or two will just change things again. I'm kind of sad to lose Oracle, though. I thought Barbara was a more mature character as Oracle than as Batgirl.
Catwoman: Think you can handle me?
Batman: I've got handcuffs.
Catwoman: Ooh.

I'll at least see how DC handles it.

Agreed. She's been cemented into the Oracle roll perfectly and has become an ever more important part of the DCU as Oracle than she ever was as Batgirl. Still I always just look for a good story to read in comics and Gail tends to provide this.

I've always enjoyed the fact that DC actually experiments with putting different people under the hood of a certain crime fighter. But now, dare I say, pretty much all of them are being ret-conned to their originals.

To be fair, I was actually never used to seeing Barbara in a wheelchair, even though she had great character development. This is probably coming from growing up with the Batman: TAS show but when I think Batgirl, I automaticaly think of a redhead behind the cowl, not a blonde girl or an asian-american girl. Odd enough, the only reason I liked the Stephanie Brown version was because she reminded me of Barbara alot.
