Anime Sightings Old and New - Idol Defense Force Hummingbird

Post by wc2bmalin »

I doubt I would have guessed that a show about idol singers becoming fighter pilots would include DID scenes, but I guess this proves anything's possible.

In episode #2, starting around 20:45, four of the five sister-pilots have been kidnapped in order to interfere with a flying competition. They are roped as a group to a vertical support in an abandoned hangar - except first they were stuffed into animal costumes!

In episode #4, around 3:30, a two-girl idol group has been shot down and captured. They have their wrists tied in front with zip-ties or perhaps very thin rope.

It's times like the tied up in an animal costume scene in episode 2 that make me ask myself, "WTF am I looking at here?! Seriously! What use could the animal suits possibly have in that situation?!" Then my rational side soothingly pats me in the head and whispers, "Shhhhh... It's anime. You just accept it. You like it anyway don't you?"

But for curiosity's sake, why did they stick them in animal costumes? What are your thoughts on the matter guys?

I'd be hard pressed to name a scene with such divergent reactions:

Eastern audience: "Ooo, how cute!"

Western audience: "Ewww, how ridiculous!"

Well to me it's not so much ridiculous as it is questionable. I'm just so used to the typical "tie up and/or gag the damsel/s" formula which has been the case for most scenes that the animal costumes threw me off a loop. Cause it really got me thinking why they needed to be stuffed in it in the first place if just tying them up was good enough.
