Anime Sightings Old and New - One Piece #294

Post by wc2bmalin »

An episode of One Piece recently shown on the Cartoon Network had a blink-and-you'll-miss-it DID scene in episode #294 that I don't recall has been pointed out before. A large group of very ugly guys was captured by the Navy and they were tied up in usual anime fashion - a cocoon of rope down the torso. But we can glimpse there's two ladies among them. (Apparently they're the only female members of the Franky Family. If their names are mentioned in the Wikipedia, I'll be darned if I can find them.) I didn't have paper and pencil at hand to make a note of the time - the best I can say is that the scene is close to the end of the episode.

They still show One Piece on Cartoon Network?! This is quite unexpected.

its actually a good show and manga. if 4kids hadn't been the one to dub it originally it probably would have fared better and been more popular in America, but alas like with almost everything they license, they ruined it for most :p

4kids does dubbing no different than any other dubbing company. Besides, they're dub of Shaman King was hilarious & not just because of the voice acting.

Not to be rude but a lot of people would disagree with you and also 4Kids did mess up One Piece in a lot of ways.

The way that pissed me off the most was that 4Kids licensed somewhat over 140 episodes, and over that stretch it skipped or consolidated some 40 episodes!

Yes shaman king was done well but One Piece was butchered. One Piece was a teen/adult anime that they tried to adapt your young kids. This forced them to HEAVILY edit the show which caused major plot holes had they continued (to be fair it wasn't something they could foresee at the time,) but for a complete list read this http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/4Kids_Entertainment" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One Piece is appropriate for children in Japan. In the US however One Piece is pretty much is for teens to adults. Remember the Japanese have different standards for their media then the US.

Update: the same scene from what appeared to be a slightly different angle also appears (briefly) in episode #296 somewhat before the eyecatch.

The only 4Kids dub I like out of the Fox Box era was Ultimate Muscle. Also if you want an example of the worst dub in 4Kids history yes even worse then 4Kids' One Piece dub you go and track down their dub of Ultraman Tiga.

They dubbed ultranan? Also, the only 4kids dubs I hate besides One Piece is Fighting Foodons. Everything else, I'm fine with. Besides, I've seen bad anime dubs that weren't by 4kids (including some that are worse than any 4kids dub).

They do edit their shows more heavily than others. To be fair they don't butcher EVERY show they get their hands on. for the most part its only the ones they try to Americanize. Shaman King from what i remember, because I couldn't get into it, kept most of what made it shaman king whereas shows like tokyo mew mew and one piece were heavily edited

that show had a couple DID scenes go figure :p and care to give examples? Right now though IMO funimation did a pretty bad job with the attack on titans voice actors. None of my friends can stand it after they dubbed it, myself included. Still a good show though.

This further proves my point on 4kids TVP because other companies wouldn't have removed the kanji symbols on their foreheads. 4kids did cause they thought it would encourage kids into getting tattoos :p
