Pauline from "Donkey Kong" bound and gagged! :)

Hey guys, not sure if anyone discovered this yet, but just thought I'd make everyone aware of a cute little scene I found yesterday from the Donkey Kong segment of the rare 80s videogame cartoon Saturday Supercade. You guys are probably already aware of the two scenes that were found in the Donkey Kong Jr. cartoon a few years back, but I had always wondered whether Pauline had any good scenes in the big DK cartoon. Unfortunately there were only a few episodes available online for that one back then, but searching again for it yesterday I found that there are now 14 of the 19 DK episodes uploaded on Youtube!

So I decided to skim through all the episodes and see if there was anything of note, and sure enough, in episode 13 "Get Along Little Apey," Pauline (who was changed to a blonde and made Mario's niece instead of girlfriend in this 'toon, for whatever reasons) has a short-but-sweet bound and gagged scene! As you can probably guess from the title, this is a western-themed episode. Pauline (wearing a blue cowgirl outfit) gets chased and caught by some bandit types (though her actual capture, tie-up, and gagging is not shown at all). Mario and DK (in cowboy clothes no less ) receive a ransom note and go to look for Pauline. Mario climbs a ladder up to the top loft of a barn and finds a banging door. Pauline is locked inside, sitting on the floor tied, OTM gagged with a dark blue or black cloth and struggling! An adorable scene, even though it only lasts a few seconds before she's freed by Mario offscreen.

I also found other Pauline scenes in different episodes, but this was the best one I think, and the only gag I saw. You guys might want to double-check me on these though because as noted I was only skimming through the eps so I might have missed something. As for other DiD scenes I saw, she has a short tie-up along with Mario in "El Donkey Kong," a couple dissappointing grab-and-carry only scenes in "Gorilla Gangster" and "Movie Mania" and a trapped-under-a-cup scene in "The Incredible Shrinking Ape," if anyone actually counts that.

But remember, there are still 5 episodes missing here, so it's not impossible that she might have another scene or two. These episodes probably aren't available online anywhere yet given the rarity of this cartoon, but it never hurts to look! Anyway, the ones we still need to find are:

#7 "Little Orphan Apey"
#10 "Apey and the Snowbeast"
#12 "Private Donkey Kong"
#14 "Sir Donkey Kong"
#15 "The Pale Whale"

I think there could be some good potential there, especially with "Private Donkey Kong" and "Sir Donkey Kong," though you never can tell. Keep your fingers crossed!

As for the Donkey Kong Jr. cartoon, the same user has 7 of the 13 episodes for that one:

I haven't checked the others yet besides the two we already know have scenes, which are "Teddy Bear Scare" and "Double or Nothing." Even with the 6 missing episodes I doubt that there's much more in that one, but you never know!

It would be great if WB would actually give us an assist with these shows. A few years back, Warner Bros. announced that they were planning to put most of the cartoons from Saturday Supercade on DVD through their MOD program, but sadly I don't think there has been any news on this since 2010. It would be really great to see these cartoons completed and put on DVD someday, but who knows if it will ever really happen.

Thanks guys, Pauline is quite a babe isn't she? Yeah, it would have been nice if that scene was longer but at least she got something out of this cartoon and it's nice to look at while it lasts. Plus I really like her mumbling in that scene.

I did actually miss a couple small scenes though that I only caught going back over the episodes a 2nd time. One of them is a brief hand-gag scene for Pauline in "Banana Bikers" where DK puts his giant ape paw over Pauline's mouth to keep her from alerting Mario. In "Gorilla of My Dreams" Pauline gets caught in a net and another woman is briefly tied up.

Yeah, it does look pretty cute on her, doesn't it? It's also quite rare to find scenes from cartoons with girls b&g in cowgirl costume. I may be forgetting some but Pebbles Flintstone's scene is the only other one that comes to mind right now.

Well as far as gags go, I guess if we want to be really broad with the term 'cowgirl' and include scenes that happen to DiDs in western settings or the occasional western outfit who aren't really cowgirls there's a lot, but otherwise I'm just not seeing it. JB from BraveStarr I guess could be considered a 'cowgirl,' but she's about the only other one that comes to mind. Can't speak to other DiD stuff as I don't actively keep track of it, but yes, there's probably a lot more of the non-gag variety.

Yup, and I also found I'd missed another small hand-gag scene for her in the "El Donkey Kong" episode. It happens in the restaurant scene while Pauline is dressed up as a senorita, before they are shown tied up outside. The baddies catch Mario and Pauline in a net and while they're struggling one of them puts his hand over the net and Pauline's mouth. Unfortunately it's not a close-up, just like the other hand-gag scene.

erikson, do you by chance remember which coloring book that was? I have seen/heard of as many as 5 different Donkey Kong coloring and/or activity books that were published in the early 80s. Through some web-searching I managed to find some scans from a few of them, but I haven't seen that scene yet.

I'm really interested to know if there's anything more in that last one especially, since apparently DK has Pauline imprisoned in a haunted house in this book. A capture scene maybe? A gag to keep Mario from hearing her cries for help? Could we be so lucky?

Anyway, that's at least 5 different DK books out there, and we know at least one or two of them has some nice DiD!

So in my opinion, in order to be a cowgirl, be that in a western theme show, or just occasionally making a western scene ep, the DID has to look like Wonder Woman from Justice League Unlimited (1x12)- - such a waste of DID potential



So if they don't have a costume comprising a hat, a short skirt from leather, a bandana in their neck and long boots, they aren't real cowgirls; just some farmer wives.

"Judy" appears to be from Cowboy Bebop, specifically one of the hosts of the bounty hunter TV show-within-a-show. That appeared in a number of CB episodes, and I can't identify which one. An oddity is that it was obvious Judy didn't wear a bra during the show, so the fact that she seems to be wearing a blouse in this image suggests that it's been edited.

it does appear to be edited, actually. Take a close look at the black. It seems to overlap some of the rest of her outfit.
