Animation errors for the lulz.

Post by Kayjay »

I was bored so I decided to cap some of the continuity errors I've come across.

First up a rather minor one from Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
Image
When you first see Rin, see has her arms tied around on the outside of the chair back. When the chair was kicked over suddenly they've moved to inside, probably because somebody realized Rin would of broken her arm otherwise.

Next up couple of cases of the disappearing gag from Cyber Six ep5 and Fortune Quest L ep14.

Lastly a costume change between episodes.

From between episodes 16 and 17 of the series Spiral, the kidnappers must of decided that the girl on the left looked cold so gave her a nice duffle coat.

I also lost count on how many times the hand is drawn in reverse when bound behind back.

For example, the eX-Driver movie and Zettai Karen Children, episode 3.

Oh yeah, I'd noticed the missing gags in the Cyber Six and Fortune Quest L scenes before. Trying to think of another example of the "vanishing gag syndrome" but my mind's drawing a blank right now. I know there's others though.

What you see even more commonly is the "magical morphing gag" example, most often with OTN switching to OTM or vice versa, and sometimes even back-and-forth multiple times! :lol: *(as in Fujiko's awesome, long scene from ep. 151 of Lupin III series 2, for example) OTN switching to OTM is actually physically possible (a gag could slip down of course), so it's not necessarily an animation error in that case, or we can pretend it isn't anyway. OTM becoming OTN looks a little silly though, since it defies the law of gravity! :lol: In order for that to happen, we'd have to assume that the damsel's captor keeps re-adjusting or re-tying her gag. Either that or the damsel is just kinky for having her nose covered by the gag, and she's doing some incredible gravity-defying tricks with her face off-camera! :lol: Hmm...come to think of it, that's kind of hot to imagine! :rolls:

Great thread ideas. I bet if you look closer on many scenes you would find many more. Just like in "normal" movies there are tons of mistakes.

well Shadownightjpn on his deviant art channel started this topic of "gag fails" http://shadownightjpn.deviantart.com/gallery/35926774" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and they start to pile up

There are a few live-action scenes I can think of too. There's an episode of Person of Interest where a cute Native American cop gets tied up and gagged by the villainess, and the gag visibly changes from a cleave gag to an over-the-mouth gag between shots with no explanation.

Thanks for the link :)
I forgot about the Full Metal Alchemist scene with the stool, and mega WTF with that Yoshinaga San Uchi No Gargoyle one.

Oh wow, I'd forgotten about that Dragon Drive scene with Yukino gagged (see here: http://shadownightjpn.deviantart.com/gallery/35926774" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), but that is one of the worst ones ever. Not even a behind-the-head situation, it's a damn close-up in that one! And the kicker is in the very next shot, her gag's back on! They forgot the gag right in the middle of the scene!? :lol: Truly an egregious example of an animation flaw in an otherwise great gag scene. The real shame of it is, that would have been a GREAT shot of her with the gag on too. >:(

well the worst scene is in Ultra Force http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reEHf8ToabE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
when she is in the hand of the pumpkin guy she is gagged, but the next shot she isn't and so on

Not so much an animation fail as more an anatomy/art fail.

From Keroro Gunsou ep300.

Normal looking Fuyuki and Natsumi.
