Okiku

Post by Suicide »

This was brought up in the Trading Card topic () and I figured it deserves it's own topic.
Okiku is a common japanese ghost story about a young woman who is murdered (in some cases tortured) and tossed into a well. A common depiction of this in Japanese culture is a young female ghost surrounded by ten floating plates. The premise of the story was also used as the basis to the movie "Ringu." But there's also another common thing about it and that's the woman of the story depicted in bondage:

Another thing about it is that there is a type of worm called the Okiku named so after the woman because they are commonly found in wells. There are lots of depictions of her ghost as part slug and still in bondage in the afterlife:

I love it when folk tales involve bondage; even more so when the bindings themselves are intricate. :)

I feel both educated and intrigued; thanks for the lesson!
