Mission Impossible- Fallout
Word has it that the latest MI film has an awesome scene for Rebecca Ferguson! She does some snooping around and gets knocked out (sleepycomics!) by the bad guys. They tie her up to a chair and cleave gag her but, after some struggling, she manages to break the chair and free herself. So...both major film releases in the US this weekend, this film and Teen Titans both have bondage scenes in them. On top of what we've already seen in Incredibles 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp, this has been one awesome summer for bondage scenes in movies!
Re: Mission Impossible- Fallout
Not to mention the triple full treatment in Annihilation with Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and Jennifer Jason Leigh!

Yeah bondage in mainstream media. It kinda feels like it was more like a 90ies thing. I don't know, but I think it was kind of gone in the past years. So I really like to see a renaissance.

mmm ok do not want to bring the political debate so I will only give my opinion, the damsels today are frowned upon by the theme of feminism, safe spaces, nonviolence against women, women who look strong and safe, strong heroines who are not captured ... not a 100% direct cause of this but I think that if it would be close to 50% at least I think the authors, artists or directors think it 3 times before putting an actress or female character in a "tight" and dangerous situation, but still So we have a good scene every month and a decent amount a year ... but I think it's far from reaching extinction.
P.D : I am talking about american and european media , asia media is completly different

Yes, this is why we had not many scenes in the last decade I suppose. But I think there is a difference between a victimized character that needs to be saved all the time and a character who saves herself. We have the second option these days. Which is kinda ok to me, but I think if you really want to be diverse you have to keep in mind that there are strong people and people who need guidance or help in some situations. Diversity is more than just gay and straight people, and black and white people etc., it is or should be to display all kind of human beeings with different strenghts and weaknesses. This causes empathy for those characters.sawxd wrote:mmm ok do not want to bring the political debate so I will only give my opinion, the damsels today are frowned upon by the theme of feminism, safe spaces, nonviolence against women, women who look strong and safe, strong heroines who are not captured ... not a 100% direct cause of this but I think that if it would be close to 50% at least I think the authors, artists or directors think it 3 times before putting an actress or female character in a "tight" and dangerous situation, but still So we have a good scene every month and a decent amount a year ... but I think it's far from reaching extinction.

So if I have a character that needs to be saved, why is it a bad thing? Showing strong "Wonder Woman characters" all the time is so boring and monotonous and showing always a victim is boring aswell. People need to stop to analyse everything under a political reception. Can't we just enjoy art for what it is? I feel like people interpret way to much into everything. Yes we need a critical view on our culture, but some take it way to seriously and this pisses me off sometimes. In addition to that, artists need to do their own thing and tell the stories they want. Art that wants to be loved by people with a politcal agenda is a bad one.

Okay! Just came back from the movie so here are the deets! Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) gets ambushed and knocked out by one of the bad guys. (He grabs her through a wall and smacks her across the skull with a cord of wood!
) She wakes up cleave-gagged (pretty sure it's her own green scarf) and bound to a chair. The way she's tied is really weird- she has rope wrapped around her neck and it's threaded through the chair slats and around her hands which are down along the sides of the chair. It's tied in a way so that if she tries to free herself, she chokes. You really don't get to see anything clearly except for the ropes around her neck.
But I gotta say, it's probably one of the best gag scenes I've seen because she tries to warn one of her teammates that it's a trap but all she can do is mumble furiously through her gag. There's a big fight and she ends up breaking the chair and freeing herself. And she even uses the rope she was tied with as a weapon and saves her teammate! It really is an awesome scene. And even better, we get a quick glimpse of her gagged in the opening credits montage!
